Getting Organized...and staying that way!

Hello lovelies!
Okay so I don't know when y'all start school, but I'm already in my fourth or fifth week of college! This is generally the point when the new-ness wears off and classes aren't so fun anymore. So today I'll show you my cute little Lilly Pulitzer agenda and some ways I stay (mostly) organized and on the ball!

1. Make To-Do lists
I have seen some planners that have to do lists already written in, but since I love my Lilly planners so much, I just write it in myself! It's so nice when you can see exactly what you have to do and you don't have to stress to remember it and it really keeps me on task to see the list in front of me. The best part is checking off an assignment or errand and knowing you're being productive!

2. Write everything down
In high school, I would only write down homework assignments and never meetings or appointments. Now, I write down everything because if I see that I have a paper due Friday and two meetings on Thursday, I know that I won't have time to procrastinate. I like to see how busy or open my week will be, especially when I'm scheduling other things so I can spread things out evenly!
When it comes to readings for class, even though those aren't technically homework because you aren't having to turn it in, I still write it down. It's especially helpful when I miss class so I don't have to ask what I missed or search my syllabus.

3. Make notes days/weeks ahead
I have become really obsessed with leaving myself little notes 2-3 weeks in advance for papers or tests and at least a week ahead for big homework assignments. This way I don't get to the week of the test and realize I should've stayed in that weekend. I'll plan my weekends to go home around this and it helps me to at least start studying a bit early and not have to cram everything in!

4. It's okay to take study breaks
So this isn't really an organizing tip, but just go with it, because it can help you to stay on the ball with a fresh mind! So many of my friends will study for hours and by the time they finally quit their brains are fried. I like to study for an hour and then watch a YouTube video (or two...or seven. eek) or eat a good snack! This gives your brain time to recharge and makes studying not such a drag! Just make sure you eat something healthy and filling (granola, trail mix, peanut butter and apples, etc) and not pure sugar, which makes you tired and slows you down! That will just cause you to crash even more. If you're looking for a great study break, I recommend this one.

What is your best "getting organized" tip?
  All my love,
    Sarah

Birthday festivities

So as I mentioned in my last post, I recently celebrated my birthday with a weekend trip in New Orleans and a shopping spree at some of my favorite places! I thought since I took lots of pictures at the hotel and especially of all the food my friends and I ate, I'd share some of them with you! The hotel we stayed at was called Le Pavillion and it was gorgeous!
The service there was so wonderful and we were treated like queens (and who doesn't love that, am I right?)! When we first pulled up, someone came right away to take our bags and valet park our car, which was so super cool. Then we waltzed into the beautiful lobby to check in (super cute room key)!
After changing and unpacking, we walked about two blocks down to Magazine Street and stopped in to eat at The Ruby Slipper cafe. The whole atmosphere of the place was super cool and very New Orleans. There we had brunch which included French bread French toast, ham, bacon, and eggs. I had coke to drink...you'll soon learn I'm an absolute addict. Next we hopped down Magazine and shopped a bit before running back to the hotel, hiding from the rain while watching Disney movies in our robes, and getting ready for dinner. We popped into a cab around 7 and headed into the heart of the French Quarter to find dinner, where we ended up eating at Muriel's. Dinner was a bit pricey at $35 a person but it really was a wonderful experience. We felt so very grown up and sophisticated! For an appetizer I had seafood gumbo Sorry for the looks of it to all you non-southerners, it tastes better than it looks, I promise. For my main course I had the double cut pork chop, duck confit (switched with greens because I hate veggies, yuck!), and pecan glazed sweet potatoes, which were heavenly. Last but not least, I had pain perdu bread pudding with candied pecans and rum sauce. Omgosh, the picture is missing a bite because it looked so great I forgot to take a picture before I dived in. Also, one of my friends got the flourless chocolate cake which I would also highly recommend. It's a mix between cheesecake and mousse and 100% delicious. The next morning, after some playing around in the Quarter, we made our way into a brewery on Decateur and I had the kid's meal fried shrimp with fries (I was still quite full from the meal the night before, and again, I'm so picky).
Overall the entire weekend was a blast, I was treated like a queen, bought some wonderful clothes I'm now obsessed with, and got to spend time in one of my favorite cities! Hope you enjoyed reading about my Nola adventure!
            All my love,

Winter Clothes

Sorry it's been a while, I've been very busy and getting super excited because I'm getting great post ideas. I never realized how much I actually do until I had to start thinking of things to fill this space with! Someone told me once that what might be totally boring to you could be super interesting to someone half way across the world and I do hope that's the case! So I recently took a trip for my birthday (more details to come later) and while I was there I went shopping crazy! My favorite things that I bought were from J. Crew so I thought I'd share them here! I got their excursion vest, which I've been wanting forever in hunter green

this adorable plaid flannel that is the softest shirt I have EVER owned

This scalloped dress in royal blue (deciding which color I wanted was so hard but I think this color will be great for fall with tights and boots and good in the spring as well) and the material is quite wonderful!

and last but not least, I got two peplum shirts (one in the coral and one in white) and I love them both...they make great staple pieces because they are such a classic fit and they work great with skirts for nice occasions or just with jeans for a lazy day!
All of the images are taken straight from the J. Crew website as I am terrible at doing OOTD's. I am also terrible at cropping, as you can see. Have a wonderful day and I hope you enjoyed this post!
All my love,

Hellooooo World!

Hellooo world! My name is Sarah, I'm 19, and I'm a poli sci student in my sophomore year of college! I am completely obsessed with two things at the moment, London and of course, One Direction (how old is too old?)!! I am starting a blog just for fun because there are so many great blogs that I am obsessed with and I thought it'd be a cool thing to try out! I named the blog "Sarah Smile" because I was named after the Hall and Oates song...super cheesy, I know, but it's the best I could think up at the moment. I will try to write as often as possible and my goal is to just write about relatable things. I go to a pretty big college in a medium sized town and I'm a member of a pretty well known sorority, so that sounds pretty relatable to me! If anyone should come across this (eek) and like it, let me know! Also, find me on twitter or instagram, @sarahashtynn on insta and @sarahashtyn on twitter! Confusing, I know!
                        All my love,
                               Sarah
