My February Favorites

Hi friends, happy Tuesday! It's extra special if you're here in Louisiana too, because it's also Mardi Gras! I took a break from the blog last week because I felt very overwhelmed and uninspired, but I hit the refresh button and I am back today with my February favorites! I made a list of all the lifestyle, beauty, and musical favorites I've been loving this month, so I hope you enjoy taking a peek!

1. Banana Republic Zero Gravity Ankle Jeans
I'm trying to fill gaps in my wardrobe before I start law school, and one thing I really needed was a pair of nice, dark wash skinny jeans. I saw these online and ordered them on whim and am so pleased with them! They are the perfect ankle length so I don't have to roll them, they have a bit of stretch so they're comfy, they're highwaisted, and they sort of hold up your bum and suck you in at the same time. I love the wash too because it's dark and slimming, but not black. It's more of a clean, true navy. If you're in the market for a nice, grown up pair of skinny jeans, I'd 100% give these a try!

I came across this while I was shopping at Nordstrom and I'm so glad I took a chance and ordered it! I'm trying to incorporate more cream products into my makeup collection and I think this blush is a great place to start for people who want that dewy look but nothing too crazy. I got it in natural because I wasn't sure how strong the color would be, and I really love it. I layer my favorite blush ever on top of it if I want a darker color, but on days when I'm just wearing concealer and mascara I wear it by itself because it looks very natural and light. You just dab the little sponge on your cheek and then blend the edges with your fingers!

I recently gave up Coke to reduce my sugar and caffeine intake and that left a huge hole in my drink options. I tried LaCroix, Perrier, and Sparkling Ice, and liked none of them. I'm not a big fan of sparkling water, but kept trying just in case. Eventually, I tried Hint and it was love at first taste. It has just the slightest sweet taste without any artificial flavorings or fake sugars. It tastes just like water with no yucky aftertaste that I find other flavored waters have. Totally recommend that you pick one up if you come across one because they have tons of flavors and they're healthy and good!

I used to use this and then stopped because I started using by Dramatically Different moisturizer. I love both, but this gives you that extra boost of hydration that you need in cold, dry weather. It's the texture of a gel, but dries quickly and doesn't feel tight or sticky at all. I use it at night after my serum, but have used it as a primer under matte foundations and it worked well like that too. It's a total dupe for the more expensive Clinque version and at $9 it's a steal.

I really did not want to like this stuff because it's $20 a bottle. BUT, I actually love it and use it religiously. It feels a but like you're oiled down at first, but in such a good, "you know it's working" type of way. It sinks in easily though and makes a great base moisturizer. I use it at night or on days when I'm not going to wear makeup and highly recommend for people with dry or sensitive skin.

6. The Mindy Project
I highly recommend this show to anyone who is looking for something to watch or needs something quick and funny between classes or before bed. It started as just "my show", but Myles loved it so much that we ended up watching the whole thing together. Each episode is only 22 minutes, so it's easy to fit in if you're pressed for time, and we find ourselves laughing out loud the whole time. A but raunchy at times, but also hilarious writing.

Y'ALL, I know this song is a little old, but it hits me so hard every time. She's a great singer as it is, but any child of divorce knows what that's like, and even though my parents have been divorced almost ten years it still brings me back. Such good lyrics.

Fitness Files: Training for my First 5K

Happy Friday friends! I am so sorry for the lack of a post yesterday. I have had a super busy week and it just got away from me. BUT, I'm back today with a post I think you'll really like - my experience training for my first 5k + my tips for those of you who might be in the same boat! I have learned so much since I started training in January, and while I've made lots of mistakes, I've come out so much better for it and I'm so proud of myself for sticking to it, amidst all of the painful mess ups. Hopefully you can learn a thing or two from my journey towards being a well equipped runner and save yourself some trouble!

Valentine's Questionnaire

Happy Valentine's Day friends!! I love the spirit of love that today brings. I know that there is a lot of pressure for it to be the perfect day and only relevant if you're in a relationship, but I choose not to see it that way. For me, it's a day to appreciate all the ones I love in my life - my parents, my sister, Myles, Myles' fam, my grandparents, and my BFFs. I am so lucky to have all of those relationships and they're all important.
I wish that my teenage self who did nothing but dream about the days I'm in now and wish like hell that I was in a relationship knew that it would all work out, and someone like Myles would come into my life just when I was happily single and confident in who I was. In all honesty, my whole life (age 6-21) I fell head over heels for all of the wrong people. I loved on people who didn't deserve it and I never got back as much as I put in. It was exhausting and sad and I felt like I couldn't be happy if I was single. Shortly before Myles and I met, I threw all that overboard and put tons of effort into building my faith, expanding my friend group, and doing all the things I'd been wanting to do but was too scared to and I'm so glad I did, because the person I am now is so much more deserving of him than the person I was before.
These days, it's even better than I'd imagined, and I'm here to tell anyone who feels like poop today because Hallmark is making you feel like less for being single, enjoy these days. Because one day you'll be looking back on them and wish you knew now what you'll know then, which is that everything will work out and all the things you're looking for are on their way!
Today, I thought it'd be fun to do a little Q&A about Myles and I's relationship, just for giggles.

How did we meet?

We met in February of 2015 at a Student Senate meeting. It's actually quite funny because the committee was discussing providing free condoms to the student body and I was blushing like a baby! I remember leaving and thinking he would think I was such a little kid. Turns out he didn't notice at all! He still to this day says he doesn't even remember me being there. True love, right?

First Impressions?

I thought Myles was quiet and must've older then me because he was very laid back and seemed confident, but not cocky. I liked that he wasn't trying to be the center of attention but hated his Chacos. He was sweet and talkative ever since then and never made me feel silly or stupid for wanting to talk to him.

(written by Myles)  The first time that Sarah and I met, she was reserved but not quiet. Our conversation was about One Direction, it was the day one of them left (I still don't know who?). From then on we talked nearly everyday.

How long have we been together?

We have been together *officially* for about 14 months, but unofficially closer to 2 years. We hung out all the time and went on dates for about 8 months before we decided to be boyfriend and girlfriend.
We have lived together since last July and is has been so much fun everyday.

My favorite memory:

I have so many funny stories and memories of our relationship so far, but my favorite time in our relationship was our trip to Amelia Island last year. We were so carefree and just enjoying the good weather and lack of a schedule. We cooked together for almost all of our meals and rode bikes everywhere we went.
(written by Myles) My second favorite memory, because Sarah stole our trip to Amelia, was her birthday this past year. The day began in New Orleans, with brunch at the Ruby Slipper and the best bloody-mary. Then we played tourists in the French Quarter before we got dressed up for dinner. Finally, we ended the night losing some money at Harrah's Casino!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am so thankful to have found Myles and get to do life with him everyday. He is smart, and funny, and thoughtful, and handsome, and while we have tons in common, we never run out of things to talk about. I love that we have both grown so much together, but still have so much growing and changing to look forward to.
This Valentine's Day, I am obviously glad to celebrate with Myles, but also so grateful for all the wonderful friends and family I have in my life. It's great to be in a relationship and have a built in best friend, and I wish I had known these days were coming, but that could never replace the wonderful support system I have in addition to Myles.

Who are you thankful for today?

My Current Reading List

Happy Thursday friends! I am SO ready for some time to relax this weekend, but overjoyed because Myles and I are going to see Billy Joel tomorrow night! One of my favorite things about weekend downtime though is time to sit back and read a good book. I used to love reading before I had to do it for hours for my classes, so now that I have some time before law school starts, I'm soaking up every good book I can! Here are 4 that I'm currently reading and highly recommend, plus one of my favorite books ever. If you're looking to catch the reading bug or just need new material, this one's for you!

5 Valentine's Day Date Ideas UNDER $50

Hi friends! I hope you all had a wonderful, refreshing weekend! I am so ready to hit the ground running this week! I have seen posts all over the blog world about what to wear on Valentine's Day or gift guides for what to get your significant other/bff/mom, etc on Valentine's Day. And I love all of them! But I thought that instead of giving you a post on those things, I'd give you a few Valentine's date ideas, in the hopes that you'll get to enjoy something fun if you're like me and ballin' on a budget. I think gifts for Valentine's are tons of fun too, but I'm still a little burnt out wallet wise after Christmas and Myles' January birthday, so here are 5 ways to enjoy a date with your significant other or your favorite gal pal without breaking the bank!

Marc Fisher Wedges + Transitional Tops for Spring

It's Friday friends! Congrats to all of us for making it through this week and it's February! I am so excited to be going to a Mardi Gras ball Saturday night and then having some much needed family time on Sunday. I hope y'all have a wonderful weekend planned as well! Lately, Louisiana has been having very mild (almost hot) weather. And although it's making me feel like full on spring, I don't want to break out the pastels and Lilly Pulitzer just yet. Today, I wanted to share this great transition outfit that I'll be wearing well in to spring and summer.
